Craig is a long term resident of the Waitakere’s West Coast which is why this first series of images are of those iconic beaches. The images have been gathered over the last two decades and have been captured via medium format, 35mm, waterhousings and high end digital cameras. The surf that these West Coast beaches produce has always been a fascination; both as an active participant and a photographer. The concept behind the works is to show the environment from multiple angles so the viewer enjoys a true sense of place, while maintaining an underlying surf theme.
In the Karekare image the main shot was from the surf, the main shot here is the opposite, panned back wide angle to get both Taitomo [to the south] and Lion Rock [to the north] in frame. The infamous and ever elusive Piha Bar is working. Shot just before the sun rose over the Waitakeres. See sizes, options and ordering information below.
